This week Scope Construction handed over a new SEND teaching facility for Homefield College, who are a community-based independent specialist college that focus on providing education, training, care, support, independent living, practical experience and life lessons to people aged 16+. Typically students have a learning disability and/or difficulty, with particular emphasis on people on the Autistic Spectrum and people with communication difficulties.
Great to work with rg+p and Salus (Building Control & Fire Safety Consultants) Ltd on the scheme, which involved the substantial and complex refurbishment of a former office building to create new teaching spaces, an assembly room and staff offices. One of the biggest challenges of the scheme was the careful deconstruction required to remove the roof and retain the remaining walls and façade, before additional brick courses and structural steels were introduced to accommodate an additional floor and new roof.
During the delivery of the scheme we were also delighted to work with the college to deliver an Unbox Your Future Programme in partnership with the Leicester and Leicestershire Careers Hub aimed at providing real world work experience for young people and raising awareness of career opportunities in construction.
The college team will be furnishing their new facility over the coming weeks and moving in over summer ready for the start of a new school year in September. We look forward to seeing their students thrive in their new home and running next year's Unbox Your Future Programme in a building delivered by Team Scope.
